It’s Summer!!! And what better way to start off the season than by giving your patio a much needed refresh?
When I wrote my first Stenciled Patio post back in 2010, I had only two photos to show you. Since then so many patios have been painted and shared through the magic of Pinterest, Houzz, and assorted blogs, that I decided a Stenciled Patio update was in order. Towards that end, I’ve collected several examples of stenciled patios and concrete porches for today’s follow-up post.

LA Times: Carpet of Color
This article from the LA Times gives you step-by-step instructions for stenciling your own colorful carpet. I love the cheery red Karen and Guy Vidal used on this patio — what a transformation!
When designers Karen and Guy Vidal went to revive a concrete area along the back of an East Hollywood apartment building that they owned, the couple turned to an inexpensive DIY trick: stenciling a “carpet” directly onto the patio.

The House of Wood: Stenciled Concrete Rug
Learn how to use concrete stain and stencils to create an outdoor patio “rug” in this step-by-step tutorial by Jen Woodhouse of The House of Wood.
The patio was old, cracked, and stained (and not in a good way) so simply covering it up (in lieu of major renovation) was always my quick fix. And since I have yet to find an outdoor rug that can take on the Alabama sun and live to tell about it, this stenciled concrete rug was the perfect solution.

We had this amazing stencil from Royal Design Studios blown up to an 18″ repeat. He painted the floor with Sherwin Williams porch and floor paint…
…And then it didn’t feel quite finished. I texted my friend Brandy a photo and she replied back immediately, “You need an amazing vintage elephant stool between the two chairs.” And so I did.

Keep Calm and Decorate: Painted Patio Tiles
This tutorial creates a stenciled pattern mimicking patio tiles using paint and tape.
The painted patio was a lot of work but well worth it. I wasn’t sure at the beginning of this project how it would look once it was completed. I am so happy with the results.

This clever patio doesn’t even require paint! It was stenciled by using a pressure washer through a doormat to clean a pattern into the surface!
We did this with a pressure washer and doormats. Reverse graffiti, clean tagging
